The book can tend to be a little dry at times, maybe that's a subject based issue, but there are a lot of practice problems and some guided problems so it is a very good supplement to lecture. There is a more recent version of this book, but the information hasn't changed so if you have an option go for the cheaper version.
I would recommend this book to people who learn best from work done independently or really love organic chemistry. If you feel good about getting the info from the professor then it's probably okay to skip it. Yes, Loudon is extremely wordy. But if you get past that, and just persevere, it all starts to make sense. I had a professor who was great in lab, but horrible in lecture. I've read two organic chemistry books McMurry and, this one, Loudonand out of the two, this one is better. Most of the chapters explain the concepts in detail, and they're quite easy to understand, organic chemistry loudon 5th edition pdf free download. My professor once in a while tells the class to read the book because it does a good job of explaining things. The examples or "study problems" help a lot too. When I don't have time to solve the problems and look up their solutions in the study guide, I just do the "study problems" and read the explanations for each problem.
Good book, purchased for my Sophomore year of college. I ordered it used from a bookstore, so I was surprised when it arrived at my door looking almost brand new. Very happy with purchase. Bearing that in mind, this book seems to be more comfortable sitting on a professors bookshelf than in a student's backpack. It is not beginner friendly. There is too much overly-technical language and not enough visuals to drive points home. I would recommend the Mcgraw-Hill organic chemistry book over this one any day. I was foolish enough to buy the study guide along with this book as well. Avoid this book at all costs if you are in organic chemistry. It is painful to read. The Mcgraw-Hill book is 10x better.
The book arrived in good shape and is useful. I have no other comments at this time. My school recommended this, it's very helpful. Also the price was surprisingly low and the condition of the book is good!
