But when I went to the control panel users link and clicked on delete an account it showed two accounts. I must have somehow created two administrative accounts during the startup, though I have no recollection of doing that.
When I deleted one of the accounts the conflict was resolved and I was able to load apps. Thanks for the prompt help.
